Why 100% Grass Fed

Because it matters what our food eats

In the market of "natural" food choices, there are many differences.  For instance, what is the difference between "Pasture Raised", "Grass Finished" and "100% Grass Fed"?  Some of the larger meat producers have caught on to the fact that consumers are starting to care more and more about what they are consuming.  So, their slick marketing people have opted for deceptive wording like "grass finished" and "pasture raised".  Sounds great, right?  Wrong.  A "grass finished" animal may spend the first 12 months of life being fattened up on corn - just like any other feedlot animal - only to be introduced to grass for the last couple months of its life.  "Pasture Raised" animals may receive a significant portion of their nutrition from pasture and stored dried forages, but may also receive supplemental grain throughout their life.  On the other hand, 100% Grass Fed animals are able to enjoy the soft grass and earth under their feet and in their mouths their entire life.  Our animals eat ONLY grass and hay, exactly the way they were designed to. Imagine getting Salad Bar nutrition in the meat you eat!  At Grateful Grazers Farm, we believe that our animals should only be raised on what they would eat in the wild.

Why Grass Fed Beef?  Below is an excerpt of an article published by Dr. Joseph Mercola, a leading health advocate.

A joint effort between the USDA and Clemson University researchers in 2009 determined a total of 10 key areas where grass-fed is better than grain-fed beef for human health.
In a side-by-side comparison, they determined that grass-fed beef was:
1. Lower in total fat
2. Higher in beta-carotene
3. Higher in vitamin E (alpha-tocopherol)
4. Higher in the B-vitamins thiamin and riboflavin
5. Higher in the minerals calcium, magnesium, and potassium
6. Higher in total omega-3s
7. A healthier ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 fatty acids (1.65 vs 4.84)
8. Higher in CLA, a potential cancer fighter
9. Higher in vaccenic acid (which can be transformed into CLA)
10. Lower in the saturated fats linked with heart disease
